Overview

Welcome to the Empower Data Importer User's Guide. The Data Importer can be used by Administrators to create new Objects, edit Objects and Workspace rules, and manage uploading files to Empower Desktop.

Data Importer Modes

Empower 8.5 introduced Basic and Advanced Data Importer Modes:

• Basic Mode: Prevents users from using imports to add brand-new values to picklists like Lifecycles, Types, Categories, and picklist Attributes, and pre-validates data (data length, type, whether it can be updated, whether it creates a new object) to avoid errors. Basic Mode does not require a Data Importer License.
• Advanced Mode: Allows users to add new values to picklists like Lifecycles, Types, Categories, and picklist Attributes. This mode does not validate data. More Object Types are also available to users in Advanced Mode (including Affected Items and Documents related to various Empower Objects). Advanced Mode requires a Data Importer License. Please talk with Empower support to add this license to your workspace.

The Data Importer does not show which mode it is in and the process for each is very similar. Ask your administrator if you are uncertain which mode you have access to.

Data Importer User Permissions

Administrators can select whether members of a user group can use the Basic Data Importer or Advanced Data Importer. Selecting both options will give the users access to the Advanced Mode.

Users can launch Empower Data Importer from Empower Server Home Page -> Utilities -> Data Importer
