Empower System Requirements

Empower System Requirements

Applies to: v8.6.0; v8.6.1; v8.6.2

Overview

Empower uses a 3-tier architecture:

Multiple tiers can reside on a single node/machine or separated across different servers.

This document describes system software and hardware requirements for each tier as well as web browsers supported for client/user access.

User Access/Browsers

All core Empower applications and modules are web browser-based applications.

The following browsers are supported for client/user access:

BrowserVersion
Microsoft Internet Explorer11
Mozilla FirefoxLatest
SafariLatest
Google ChromeLatest

Note: Empower uses HTML5 and CSS3. You should always use the latest version of all supported browsers.

Database Requirements

Empower requires Microsoft SQL Server for all database‑tier operations. To ensure performance, security, and long‑term platform support, customers should install a modern version of SQL Server that is within Microsoft’s active support lifecycle.

Supported SQL Server Versions

CategorySQL Server VersionNotes
PreferredSQL Server 2025Best performance and longest lifecycle support. Ideal for all new deployments.
RecommendedSQL Server 2022Standard recommendation for production systems.
Minimum Supported (Existing Deployments Only)SQL Server 2019Supported for compatibility only. Not recommended for new installations.

Deprecated / No Longer Supported

The following SQL Server versions are no longer supported for new Empower deployments and should not be used:

  • SQL Server 2017
  • SQL Server 2016
  • SQL Server 2014*
  • SQL Server 2012*

* Already marked as not supported in prior Empower releases.

Empower Recommendation For all new implementations, Empower recommends installing SQL Server 2022 or later.
Empower may continue to function on older versions such as SQL Server 2019, but these versions are past (or approaching) Microsoft’s mainstream support window and may introduce security or compliance risks.

Additional Notes

  • Actual hardware and software requirements vary based on SQL Server version, edition, and features installed.
  • Ensure that your deployment uses a Windows operating system supported by the SQL Server version you choose.
  • For the most current Microsoft hardware and software requirements, refer to Microsoft’s SQL Server documentation.

Application Tier Requirements

The Empower Data Access/Component Tier requires the Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 4.8 or greater and Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 or later.

The Microsoft .NET Framework system requirements are described in the following table.
